The 1780 farm LLCContact Richard either via e-mail or call 818-929-2901 The 1780 Farm LLC – historical Family Farm.We have a market garden of approx 2 acres, operate a farm stand in season, have U-Pick Blueberries, sell eggs, raise grass fed beef, chicken, Duck and Sheep.   We sponsor educational field trips to our farm for the Chesterfield Elementary school which is located walking distance away.We have a beaver pond, 17 acres of woodland and stream.  There are 10 acres hayed and 5 acres grazed and about a 2.5 acre homestead.Jeanny and Richard Aldrich ownerswho have raised 8 children.Jeanny is a professionally trained (LeCordonBleu) chef with 20 + years of experience in the hospitality business.  She will graduate from Keene State this June with a degree in Nutrition. She is serious about eating in season, buying local and whole foods.Richard graduated from California State University with a major in geology and a minor in Art and is a retired math teacher, Home designer, builder, farmer. He doesn’t eat anything his grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.
Duties and Responsibilities of Intern Interns work in all aspects of the Farm’s productionfrom seeding, transplanting, greenhouse production, irrigation, field preparation, cultivating/weeding, harvesting, washing and packing and assisting with the CSA. ANDDuring the course of the full season, Interns will be given the responsibility as the opportunity avails itself, of preparing a syllabus in concert with the teacher of various grade levels of the local elementary school and provide a fun filled learning experience which corresponds to extant course studies for a room full of young students during their field trips to the farm.  You will be supplied the essential tools and resources, given the information and time.  You will be expected to quickly learn  farming’s essential skills & CSA operation.In return, Interns are expected to give their labor for the daily work of the Farm and provide what skills they possess to the tasks at hand.
Skills required for position a good work ethic and demeanor and a desire to learn.  A BIG SMILE, a pleasing personality are expected
Hours and Term of Appointment Students will be looking for a minimum of 225 hours of work. Please Specify the semester—Spring or Summer. Be specific  Typically it will be six days a week, ( the sixth is short and flexible ), 7‐6pm, though we may call on folks to work late if we are trying to get something planted before rain, or beds shaped and covered with black mulch.  Swim breaks on hot days at Wares Beach, occasional picnic lunchesWe would like is an 8 week commitment.  What we will provide is a place to work hard, learn lots and eat and rest  well.Everyone works Tuesdays through Saturdays. Sundays are on a rotating schedule of one intern being on call at the farm to water and attend to visitors / customers and animals.  We are closed Monday.Hours  are from 7a.m. to 6:30p.m., allowing for
flexibility due to weather  . (We will  start very early if it’s going to be a scorcher ) Harvest days for the CSA are Monday and Fridays starting    We will work from 7a.m. until the pick‐up begins at 1:00, then break for lunch. Lunch is one hour   One   will be scheduled to stock  and maintain the farm stand.   . Breakfast will be eaten in the dining room before the work day begins.  There are various and sundry office and maintenance chores through out the summer which must be attended to.
Remuneration  FREE ROOM AND BOARD IN THE FARM HOUSE IS PROVIDED ALONG WITH A $50 per week stipend for those working a full 2 months.  less than “full time”are adjusted accordingly due to learning curve.desired (but flexable )May – June  /  June – July  / July-August  / August –September  or longer
