The 1780 Farm internship is designed for the individual who desires to learn the ins and outs of running a small, well-diversified farm operation with an emphasis on Community Supported Agriculture, sustainable farming, and buying local and someone who enjoys working with eager minds
A typical day on the farm can include: Daily movements of cattle to new paddocks, break-down and setup of fencing, planning Holistic mob-grazing patterns. Daily movement of chicken & turkey tractors. Collection of eggs and sorting. Gardening, vegetable harvesting and washing, weeding interaction with customers and guests.
You’ll learn all aspects of growing vegetables on 2 acres 30+ family CSA. Dedicated, self-motivated, with strong work ethic and a good attitude are necessary. Students may use their farm experience to get field study/practicum school credits to create farm based educational programs for children, performed research projects, and help the farm to find and write grants.
We are looking for hardworking, enthusiastic, self-motivated team players, serious about farming, with a positive attitude, stamina to work 10+ hour days, capable of lifting 50 + #’s , while having a good time. There will be intensive “smore” production training on certain evenings and swim breaks during the heat of summer afternoons.
Learn as you work: You will learn how to raise delicious, clean, well-fed livestock and market them to local consumers effectively through different channels. In the process we will share what it takes to accomplish the day-to-day tasks to operate a local, successful business.
Requirements:
Work 5 (sometimes 6 ) days per week, roughly 40-50 hours per week. No specific work experience is required, although a good attitude is essential. Hard work is expected, rain or shine.
Housing:
We have basic accommodations located on the farm with bath. You will eat your meals with the farmers. Living room, television, & Wi fi internet available free on the farm ’til 9:00 PM daily. Having your own vehicle is advisable. Share in the harvest of vegetables and meats when in season.
Stipend:
