Start of the Season 2014 Now is the time to Join

Kicker

Things are really getting going here at The 1780 Farm. Here is a little bit about what is going on right now.

New Growth

sooner than we think most of our plants will be baby starts in our green house. The squash, kale, onions, beets, lettuces, blueberries, carrots, and strawberries will be lookin good. There will be plenty of eggplant, peas, beans, tomatoes, peppers, and leeks coming. With all the warm weather we are hoping for we should have a bumper crop of fresh fruits and vegetables this summer.

Summer Solstice Party!

Make sure to set aside the date for the Summer Solstice jam here at the farm June 19th starting at 4PM – we will have live music in the gazebo, live animals in the barn, and a roaring fire in the fire pit for those who would like to cook their own burgers or hot dawgs .Small and Beginner Farmers group. There will be games (did we mention horseshoes?) and a whole lot of folks and fun. We will be supplying all the meat, but it is a pot luck so bring your favorite dish.

Our address is 89 Winchester Rd., Chesterfield, NH 03443 and you can find directions to our farm here on Google Maps. Please RSVP by phone: 603-363-4476 or email: the1780farm@live.com if you plan to attend.See you then!

Education Initiative

Students from Chesterfield Elementary School will be making their field tripsto take a tour of the farm as part of our farm education initiative where we set up four or five stations around the property, each with different activities. While they are here, the kids learn about cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, and pigs, planting their very own pumpkins, green beans, tomatoes and kale. Some will have picked eggs from our chicken tractor, learned about the routine of a farm (and the dangers of electric fences), and had a sampling of home-made ice cream. We are really excited about these field trips and can not wait for the next group to come!

CSA Update

Our CSA pickups will be starting the week of June 11 (or 15th, depending…). That means if you have not had a chance to purchase a share, you better mosey on over to the CSA page and sign yourself up! We will be selling beef this year. Chicken, lamb and pork are still on the menu in the CSA meat share.

Eggs are available starting January 2014, they are $4.50/dozen for non-members and $4.00/dozen for members. We will also be selling a variety of goods for members and non-members this year, including Walpole Creamery ice cream, Boggy Meadow Farm cheese, and Echo Farms Puddings.

Who’s Here

Everyone will be outside weeding, planting, and picking rocks whenever the weather permits. Farming is a never ending labor of love, and we sure are glad to have some extra hands this year and along with new faces here at the farm there will be some baby lamb, pigs, chickens , turkeys and cows. So drop by when the weather breaks and have a cup of tea and visit with the animals. ')}
